Fixing imperfections with geometry and colour.
Obvious mistakes, fields of colour that noticeably do not belong to the environment they are placed in, like chipped or decayed walls or spilt paint offer interaction with the city.
By measuring the space they occupy, I use mathematical formulae to create proportional geometric stripes and hence “tidy them up”. When circumstances won’t permit me to do so
I then employ digital photography and photo-manipulation. Within a studio setting, when working on a blank canvas, imagery of the surrounding urban landscape forms the palette and composition. Geometry and measurements have a sense of security and order, which enables me to embrace and control my surroundings. The structure of geometric landscape indicates a sense of familiarity of form and colour.
